SCCC definitely has it's pros and cons. I'm a music major and I'd have to say I'm unsatisfied really just with the music department in general. There is no music education degree.. just an associate degree in "music" which isn't specific at all. This is problematic because if you're like me and you want to major in music education, chances are you will have to spend more than 2 years at whatever school you transfer to in order to graduate, since there are no music ed courses at Suffolk. The faculty are nice, although many of the Professors do not seem to be qualified or are VERY unprofessional! This however, can happen at any college, not just at SCCC. I particularly have a problem with the unprofessionalism of Professor Mattimore, although rated as the "best" professor at SCCC, the ratings don't mention how perverted this man really is. He talks more about women's breast sizes than English. Secondly, I know a few professors who don't even have their Master's and they weaseled their way into teaching piano courses because they know the head of the music department. The food is extremely greasy and unhealthy, and it's expensive! The majority of the students seem to have little direction, however you will also come across some students who care, (but it is rare to find that}. My biggest issue with SCCC is the fact that it really is not a two year college! If you have to take a few developmental courses, then you definitely will need to take summer and winter classes if you expect to graduate on time. Even if you're not in a developmental class, it is still difficult to graduate in two years. It's very easy to get a terrible professor at this college, so make sure you use ratemyprofessors.com when choosing your professors and classes. If you don't, then have fun sitting in a class with a difficult, and horrible professor. I also think it's ridiculous that students who need to take developmental classes are not allowed to register online! The lines are absolutely crazy and you will have to wait 4-5 hours on line just to make your schedule until you finish your non-credit classes! My advice for any incoming students: Don't fuck up on the placement exam, take it seriously or you're screwed.
