My daughter and I fell in love with Alverno College when we did our tour. The people in the Admissions were nothing but nice and helpful and the campus was "picture perfect". However things changed drastically once my daughter got to Alverno and lived in the dorms. The students are nasty and unfriendly. The people who actually run the "student life office" and in charge of the residence hall were the biggest group of jerks you would ever meet. Their attitude is that if you don't just love living there then YOU have a problem. In her classes, my daughter felt like she was talked down to and given busy work in order for the girls (who are mostly uneducated, poor single moms from the Milwaukee area) to catch up. My daughter was upset that so many of the women in her classes were much, much older and from a demographic that was not atypical of that of a college. My daughter had a class where you got extra points for "bringing your baby to class" even though the class had nothing to do with child care. There was a number of women in her classes and dorms who described themselves as homeless and that Alverno allowed them to enroll (paid by federal aid I am sure) I am writing this to the parents to warn them that Alverno is NOT the school that you are lead to believe it is. Not only was I warned and did not take the advice I was given; please save your self a lot of headaches, the time loss taking pointless classes that do not transfer and a whole lot of money, look at other schools before choosing Alverno College for your child. |
