I am currently attending Bloomsburg University as both an accounting and finance major. I am in my senoir year and transferred in with 60 credits (thus starting out as a junior). I have spent 3 years at the university due to the double major and have had a wide range of good and bad experiences. To start, the campus itself is small, but comforting. It's pleasant, with some greenery and a nice quad. The campus is on one big hill, so it's an upward/downward walk as you traverse campus. The town itself is disappointing. There is an excessive amount of drinking and partying. I cannot attest to the drug portion. I am not much of a drinker or partyer, though I did try the drinking/partying scene initially. I did ont enjoy it, and therefore did not have much to do on the weekends. For the faculty and staff, the accounting department is great. The professors that I've had (Law, Robson, Staley, Rude, Hwang) are quite knowledgable in their fields. They have real-world experience and are eager to bring that to the classroom. However, the finance department seems to be lacking enthusiasm. I have had professors Ohn, Martin, and Geyfman. Professor Ohn had very little structure in his teaching, and his grading was a complete mystery. He rarely handed your assignments back with your grades, and took extremely long to grade them anyway. Martin did not teach anything outside of the book, making class unnecessary except for the bonus points he awards for answering questions. Geyfman is the only redeeming finance professor I had, and fortunately had her for 4 classes, if I remember correctly. Sometimes she has trouble getting a few ideas out, but 95% of the time her teaching methods are effective. Her classes scaled up in difficulty in accordance with the class level, which was good to see. For the students, I find that far too many of them do not care about their classes and just want to drink. I have had very bad experiences in group projects due to this. They also seem to not know much about their fields, despite being juniors and seniors.

In the end, the university's accounting faculty is great. The finance faculty, aside from Geyfman, is poor. The students are not very motivated and do not care to learn, just to pass. The surrounding area isn't that great either. I would have gone to a different school if I could.
