George Mason is a tool school. They offer a lot of resources with a great career services staff, good advisers (especially with English and theater), and overall good department staff.

The IT department's customer service is bad, and they don't even got the courtesy to let people know they shut down their account. Instead, you got to walk to them to find out and then they'll accuse you of stuff. I don't even feel that's right.

Some of the professors are respectful of students and their opinions. They even act as great resources to information, other opportunities, and can be the best of friends (once the class is over). Then there are other professors who are out of touch, got no social skills, and have a superiority complex. Also, some of them even disregard student opinions if it doesn't mesh with theirs and view their students as competition. This may sound crazy but it does happen.

Then the cashiers and food staff at university venues treat the students like children. They'll sit there and dish out information dozens of times like we know nothing at all. At Southside and other places, the people get an attitude if someone wants to use the bonus dollar, when they may not use it that often. Sure, some students may be immature, but not all of us are like that and we all shouldn't be treated like that. My tip: if you got a complaint, say something about it. It will get better. On top of that, I saw nothing but junk food the first week of classes. When it disappeared, then disgusting tasting and looking vegetables were served. I don't believe that healthy foods should be disgusting.

The student body overall are unoriginal, cliquey, immature, and flaky bunch. I tend to notice them huddled up in groups, especially the freshman. It's very rare to see one person to sit alone. The non traditional age or transfer students, on the other hand, tended to be a friendly group of people. They weren't pretending to be someone they weren't. They just decent and approachable people.

Some of the organizations can be exclusive, but there's still plenty of good organizations to join. For English majors, there's the Undergraduate English Society that most people at GMU have never heard of. It's a nice organization. Then there's always opportunities to get free tickets to performances at GMU from operas to dance performances to even plays. Then there's always really interesting lectures occurring at the school.

So the resources offered here definitely outweigh the unfriendliness of the students and people at the school. The attitudes is mostly a reflection of Northern Virginia culture, so don't let a social life be the only criteria for a school.

Also, there's always plenty of ways of entertaining oneself without being pulled into parties or any other nonsense. It's easier to be alone and enjoy things alone. Think of being at GMU as a chance to be an individual and experience life independently and without a group. I love George Mason and appreciate all that's available.
