Here is my overview:

THIS IS NOT A PARTY SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT come here with the expectation to be partying on campus! Everyone here just has small kickbacks at the dorms/park mereced or they hang out in the designated smoking areas.

However, there is the wonderful city just a bus/muni ride away. There are tons of things to do in the city for 18+ and 21 +. Just know if you're planning on going here MAKE SURE you go into the city! The city has stuff for everyone: beautiful nature, the beach, clubs, a zoo, haight street, free/cheap concerts/museums, etc. Just get on the bart/muni/bus and explore.

Here is my suggestion to incoming freshmen: live in the mary park or mary ward!! You can move into the towers or the village second semester or sophomore year. But the towers/village get really lonely and most people just hole up in their apartments. If you live in the mary park/ward dorms people hang out in their lounge together and it is much easier to make friends.

At the beginning of the semester read over your class syllabus and calendar carefully. Teachers usually highlight important dates and how they will be grading their students. Most teachers here are very friendly and make time for students (however, I highly suggest using ratemyproffesor.com to find a good teacher).

My bike was stolen so make sure you get a good bike lock!

The budget cuts have lead to increases in tuition, which really sucks. However, state schools are always cheaper than UCs/privates so just try apply for as much aid/scholarship money as you can get.

I suggest renting books not buying them.

It is cold here so bring lots of sweaters!!

The only places to eat here are the cafeteria (good for breakfast), really bad Mexican food, and pizza.

Lastly there are a ton of things (besides partying) you can do on campus there are free art shows, movie showings, music performances, clubs, sports teams, a nice pool, etc.

The best thing I can tell you is that SF State is a fast pace school. You CAN'T sit around and wait for something to happen! If you are proactive and you will have a great time :D
