BARD IS WHAT Y-O-U MAKE IT

I FELL IN LOVE WITH BARD BECAUSE: overall it made me feel welcomed unlike any other school I visited. I toured the campus a total of two times and each time I had a lovely tour guide. The campus is really gorgeous with traditional and modernish buildings. Bard is filled with a lot of interesting people and a lot of them open-minded. Their curriculum really su. I wanted a school that wasn't into crazy partying, kids that didn?t want to work, a BSed curriculum, etc (I visited UVM for four days while looking at colleges and was terrified I would never get any work done there.) Honestly, I have had only one professor I didn't care for, but, all of my other professors were so passionate about what they taught - it was hard for the passion to not be contagious. Oh, and did I mention no lecture classes filled with 200 students? nope? only small classes which is really great.

STUDENT BODY: varies from the hipster to the focused smart kid to the sensitive boy into Shakespeare to the girl crazy about helping the environment… pretty much any kind of person you can think of we probably have excluding any hardcore conservative kid. Students are generally more caring for others then other colleges I have looked at or have friends at. A lot of people I know at Bard often complain about people called "Trust Fund Hippies" and the weird thing is I could have easily become a target of that (I did go to a renown college prep school and personally I never understood why it matter if someone wanted to be hippie-like), but if you're nice to people, respect them and don't really pick people apart? you?re sure to make friends.

IF YOU COME TO BARD: be ready as a freshman to come three weeks before the rest of campus gets there. You'll attend a program called ?The Language and Thinking Program? (I really loved it and think it was such a brilliant idea.) Try to pick classes you're interested in, ask about a professor's teaching style before taking their class, don't be afraid to study in the library, moderate how much you party because it isn't fair to have others take care of you (trust me, I totally know from experience), the amount you learn is truly up to you, it?s worth getting to know your Professors, bring a bike to Bard if you can, you will read A LOT, Bard is in Out. In. The. Middle. Of. The. Woods (campus is kind of where everything happens), take advantage of peer tutoring offered by BARC if you need it (it?s free), be ready to bring your own mind, be ready for doing some hands-on learning, be ready for experiencing the untraditional and always be thinking about getting ready for moderation/senior project.

IF YOU?RE CURIOUS ABOUT ME: I have always been somewhat "eccentric" one could say and my friends from high school wholeheartedly believed the character Phoebe from the show Friends was actually based on me. I actually went to a conservative college prep school for high school (believe it or not I really enjoyed my high school experience even when there weren't many people like me and I am so grateful my parents sent me there) and wanted to try something new for college. Hobbies - I love high fashion, poetry, photography, calculus (I know? it?s weird, but I love math), people watching, freedom, my family, my friends, and knowledge/ideas.—Q: I know Bard is really untraditional, but does it have any stable traditions?

A: Yes! Just to name a few: moderation, senior projects, Bard vs. Columbia rugby match, midnight breakfast, our kick-ass strength in writing, painting the old gym, Bardstock, coming out week, and 4/20.

Q: Is it true there is a lot of weed smoking at Bard?

A: Oh yes. A Bardian celebration of 4/20 is the stuff of legends.

Q: How is the food?

A: The food my mom makes is always better. But, as far as college food it?s not too great. I personally have a mini fridge and a mini george foreman in my room and I try to use that as much as possible.
