The department is fantastic. The professors are fantastic. I went in knowing jack shit, and came out already having held decent, rent-paying jobs with Emmy Award Winning professionals. Lamar Sanders, Ezra Sacks, Chris Kelly, Jim Brown, Gay Abel Bey, and Paul Thompson (all tenured professors/chairmen) are some of the most incredible and inspiring people I've ever met. That said, I WORKED it. You can sit on your ass through this thing, get A's and graduate unemployed real easy. Most kids plan on doing that. Why? Because the department is half composed of rich kids who's parents donated to the school. They don't need to work. Although some of them do, and are very talented, most of them don't. It's frustrating for a Broke Ass girl like me. As for the University, outside my department? Fuck them. I mean, thanks for the scholarship, guys, but really—my EFC says 0\(, and you're asking me to bay 9,000\) a year. It's impossible to get anyone on the phone about billing, registration, outside scheduling, health, etc. Fortress-like security (they will hold you back from taking an exam if you forget your ID, even if they see you everyday, and wave at you in the street.)Most disappointingly, my classes through CAS were all taught by grad students, most of whom had no idea what they were doing. SENIOR LEVEL CLASSES, even! The best part? They don't tell you that an unqualified individual is teaching the class until you're already stuck there. Ick. |
