I have only been at Maryland for a semester as a transfer student, but wanted to leave a review. When transferring, I applied to some very competitive schools, and UMD was absolutely the last place I wanted to go to. Well, I ended up having to come here, and on top of that as a commuter. Because of this I have not been especially integrated into the community, but was greatly surprised that I actually have come to like UMD! The classes are challenging and at least two teachers I've had this semester were really excellent. The campus is so big, that everybody is bound to find something/somebody they like. During my short time here, I have met many people with whom I would want to be great friends.I heard great things about the Study Abroad program, and most of the exchanges are free! Almost every department has a ton of resources to take advantage of, but especially career center I think excels at that. One complaint I have is the lack of diversity (though the university claims otherwise). I am not of US origin, and love meeting people from other countries. I haven't encountered this at Maryland, though. Almost everybody is from EastCoast US (lower states, which is not very interesting). However, living at the Language House next semester, I hope I meet more international people or at least people who are close-minded in their world-view. |
