Did I get a good education, for my major? Absolutely. Was it ultimately what I wanted out of my college experience? Not really. Overall, I hated the area, and can easily see how people can get stuck there forever once the "academic" part is over. It's very small, and secluded, and as is typical for Maine, winters SUCK. They usually do not cancel classes due to weather even though a lot people are commuters, and once you are off the campus line to "downtown," getting around is miserable.The other weird thing about this school was that they really take "liberal" to the furthest extreme. There is a huge sense of reverse discrimination when it comes to gender and sexuality, and useless protests that are just to get attention.However, after I finally got my feet under me, realized I could be my own advocate in the realm of advising (my advisor was useless, and actually harmful in the guidance she gave me) and found my real friends and support people, I made the best of it and had a positive experience.At the end of the day, my writing classes, and the people in them reminded me why I was there.Character building? ooooh yea. Would I do it again? Not likely. |
