I've always gone to diverse public schools, and upon entering Hampton, I could not believe how much diversity simply wasn't available, socially, culturally or educationally. When it comes to HBCUs, the best are likely Howard, Spelman or Morehouse. The rest honestly fall into the same category. It's great if you want to stay "comfortable" and remain enclosed in your race, but if you're someone who is globally minded and crave a diverse educational environment, look elsewhere.Money is not used well at Hampton, going more towards events and things that make the president and faculty look good to other universities as opposed to actually nurturing and helping the student body. The social life is largely composed of people just throwing awful parties off campus in the shady Hampton Harbor apartments that usually end in someone getting alcohol poisoning, getting maimed, raped, or getting shut down.Do your research before ever deciding to attend Hampton. You don't get what you pay for, and yes, all the rumors are true. I'm transferring at the end of this semester, and I could not get out soon enough. |
