Brevard College, in a nutshell, is just a continuation of high school. Yes, it is a beautiful campus with an endless abundance of outdoor activities, but that's as good as it gets. The tuition is way too high for what the education is, they just think because it's private it is worth the price. In all reality there are really no major/minor departments. If you ask around the campus some professors never obtained a degree in the department they are teaching, just something in similarity. If you ask students (ones that don't work for the admissions office), you will hear the pain in their voice when describing the education value. Classes are organized like high school, you have attendance, and the work is pointless. Brevard requires students to take Brevard College Experience courses that are pointless and have nothing to do with the college. The credits don't transfer; they purposely do this because they don't want to lose a student. I felt like I didn't learn anything that would help me in the real world. When walking around campus, in the dorms, and the cafeteria, it is obvious that the student body is only there because they couldn't decide what to do with their lives. They act like children in the cafeteria, loud, annoying, and immature. Like I said, a continuation of high school. The school is revolved around their good-for-nothing football team. There isn't even a football field for them to play/practice on. Like high school, the football players are immature and are given anything they want. Which plays into the safety aspect of the college. I personally had to endure my vehicle being broken into and having items stolen. Many other students had their vehicles broken into, but nothing was done to stop the break ins. Finally some football players were caught with the stolen items in their dorms, but do you think they were penalized? I saw them the very next day in classes. After speaking with the campus security and Brevard police, they simply said to file a report and they will call me. I never got my stolen items back and the suspects were still attending classes, even though it was completely obvious they were guilty of robbery. So basically football players are praised no matter what they do. The social life on campus is sad. Personally, I didn?t trust anyone with my business, because since it is such a small college in a boring town, word travels fast. The student body is divided by what sports team you are on, and then the rest of the students form their own little groups seeing as though the majority of the college is athletes. Which makes since seeing as though only 650 people are enrolled at Brevard. The athletic department may appear promising, but the average athlete is only at Brevard to play the sport they are playing. I got to experience being on one of the college?s team for a semester?that?s all I could handle. The athletic department is a joke, if you just want to play around and skimp by in college, then Brevard is the place for you. I wanted a solid, promising, fun, and worthwhile experience? Brevard failed in all areas. My coach was a really nice person with great manipulation skills. Unfortunately I fell for the empty promises and statements that I would be treated equally. In a nutshell, I was ignored, taken for granted, my workout schedules were cookie-cutter, and my teammates didn?t respect me. (You have your own opinion, but if I told you the entire story, you would understand all of my statements listed above) My dorm life was awful. My room was in terrible condition; my bathroom had mold growing everywhere, my bed was cut up and vandalized, there was no air conditioning, my door would never shut completely, and the space was tiny. Besides living in what seemed a hot box, I never got one night of peaceful sleep. The other students in my dorm would run around loudly, scream, and stay up very late. There was no respect or other?s privacy and quiet time. I would probably be able to fall asleep around 2 am every night, which is when they would either go to bed or pass out from being bored-drunk. When it came time to studying, I had to hunt for a quiet spot on campus, which usually was upstairs of the library. The library is the best place because nobody is ever in there! All in all I would recommend this school to someone who doesn?t want to do hard work, get by easily, be a mediocre athlete, and basically stay in high school for another four years. If you actually want to stand out, make a name for yourself, get a great education, and enjoy your years in college, DO NOT GO TO BREVARD COLLEGE!!! Hope my honesty helps make your decision.
