For my first few years I thought FHU was the greatest. But my pov was as a very damaged, abused child experiencing love and freedom for the first time. By the time I had been at FHU for a few years, I realized that the quality of education I was getting there was not as good as I had anticipated and the rules were ridiculous. I also thought it inappropriate that each student was required to take a bible class each semester. Years down the road, I was able to see that the education I got there was far inferior than I had thought as a student. I also recalled that in all those required bible courses, we were required to complete tests/assignments with the "correct" church of christ approved doctrine. Anytime I inserted my personal belief that conflicted with church of christ doctrine, points were deducted from my grade. Students from other denominations were also forced to complete tests/assignments with coc doctrine or have their grades docked. Those same students were considered non-christians and all us coc students waited each year for the freshmen heathens to get converted. Finally, I'll mention that I was once turned down for a job because the administrator found out I went to a church of christ college and he was concerned that I would try to push my beliefs on coworkers and clients. That's the reputation the church of christ has and anyone who gets their degree at a coc school is going to be closely scrutinized or rejected for employment at some point because some employers, particularly in the south, don't want employees who think they're the only christians causing problems on the job. Even though I assured that administrator that I no longer held coc beliefs, nor did I attend their services, he was afraid to take the chance. I had a lot of fun at FHU for awhile and it was a healing place for me to be those first few years, but in hindsight, it left me ill-prepared in my chosen field and "marked" me as a religious zealot.
