I do believe that the social life that does exist does not extend to all students because there are too many students, and most students are commuters. However, the philosophy dept in this school is quite rigorous, and there are high expectations. I overhear some engineering students complain about the amount of reading and writing they have to do in these philosophy classes, but that goes to show how rigorous the phil. dept. is. The campus is quite beautiful, and there are a lot of smart students who take these philosophy courses. It's quite interesting. Therefore, the overall experience is quite acceptable for a Cal State school, given its reputation, and I would recommend this school for any future philosophers or engineers or architects. A word of caution, the philosophy dept. can be improved because it does lack professors, which limits the areas in which a future philosophy student might want to go into within philosophy, but the professors they do have are quite good and they have graduated from reputable schools. |
