Some people are stuck up, some people are not the sharpest knives in the drew, and some are just awkward. HOWEVER! I have made a few friends in my two years of attending SCCC. I found that it is best if you talk to people in your classes and see if anyone wants to get food or to make study groups (even if it is just for exams). I was told that the average of my peers was 27/28. You will find that people of all ages go here, so don't let age be a boundary for you! Education: The education is what you get from it. If you take bull shit classes- well, what do you expect? Try to take one hard class and several classes you know you will do okay in. Also, ask around about professors. I found it easy to ask professors questions in class and talk to them after class and through there email. Don't over work yourself either. You will be miserable and life is meant to be enjoyed.Commuting: This is probably the worst part about SCCC. First, there is limited parking, so in order to get a parking spot, you have to get there early during the morning/day… or at night. Beware of new drivers!Staff: The lunch room people are friendly, but when they seem grumpy remember that they deal with a how many people a day? I enjoyed all my professors, with the exception of a few. I have been taking honors courses as well- I believe that has a lot to do with the professor and how they react to you. A majority of my professors were very understanding and helpful, but a few were out-there. Also, most of the professors I had there doctorates degrees. The other thing is that the professors are absents nazis, because of school funding; the more students that attend, the more funding the school gets. The honors counselors are very helpful. However, from my experiences, the people working in the Ammerman builder are blatantly nasty and even rude. This is just from my few experiences though- perhaps not all of them are as nasty and demanding as I have come across.Scheduling: This is chaotic! Make sure to know when scheduling is and have all your shit in order. Because having to have a 5 hour break in between classes is agonizing. KNOW YOUR SAIN REPORT! I do not have financial aid, so figuring out what classes I need to take to graduate was a nightmare! I should be graduating this semester, but I cannot, because I am missing two classes. Evidently, I took several classes that are completely pointless to take… like gym- you probably don't need it, but it is an easy gpa booster.Extracurricular: There are extracurricular activities… I didn't take part in many of them, but they are there… Ask your professor or your professor may encourage you to go to their club.Scholarships: There are some scholarships. I found out that most of them do not get handed out.Work: It depends on the class and what you are good at. Most professors do not give mandatory homework unless you are taking math, art, or writing courses. My professors usually never had more than 5 tests per semester- including the final. My friends, however, had 12 test in one semester for some 100-something course. |
