Being from Las Vegas, I grew up in a self-absorbed society where people really did not care about each other, and the extent of people's empathy was based solely someone's social standing. Upon matriculation to Marquette I was exposed to a whole new society of people whose idea of friendship extended far beyond the usefulness to each other. Sure, there are people that are self-absorbed, but most of those people end up transferring or failing out by their third year. Marquette has more service opportunities than any other university, and these fantastic learning experiences shape students into striving to succeed so they can build up the communities around them. Each time I go back to Las Vegas I am reminded that most college students only desire financial success, but only at Marquette university will you realize that a drive to work hard and help others will truly make a difference in the future of our society. I wouldn't change my Marquette experience for anything in this world, and I will surely make a difference in the lives of others as I was just accepted into medical school. |
