Statistical Analyzer:

The meteorology (now Atmospheric Sciences) program here is excellent. LSC's graduates here and in the Television Studies (now EJA) go on to do great things. It's a beautiful campus with an incredible view of the surrounding area. The faculty are very knowledgeable and approachable, and I can honestly consider a few to even be friends. HOWEVER, the administration here SUCKS. They clearly do not know the first thing about running a college, and LSC is severely in debt, to the point where cutting faculty and programs is being considered. Also, maintenance, particularly in the Stonehenge and Wheelock dorms, is terrible. Living in Stonehenge, when I came in (in August), one of my room's internet jacks was broken, and wasn't fixed until December. The Wheelock rooms are incredibly reminiscent of a typical prison cell. The Rita Bole rooms and suites are pretty nice, though.

Also, some of the programs other than Atmos. Sci., TV studies, and Exercise Science are fairly shitty. If you're considering coming to LSC for anything besides one of those three, you're probably better off somewhere else.

As far as the surrounding area goes, it's a very beautiful area, but there isn't a lot to do if you don't enjoy the outdoors. Frankly, I have absolutely no idea how anyone who doesn't enjoy outdoor activities survives here. Nearby Burke Mtn has good skiing and is very underrated. Kingdom Trails is good for mtn biking and XC skiing. If you are someone who wants to go to school in a place where there are a lot of clubs, bars, and general nightlife, you're looking in the wrong place. There's one really really shitty "club" in town, not within easy walking distance of the college and filled with fat chicks, that I'm pretty sure I got AIDS from just walking into the one time I actually went there.

Sports at Lyndon: We recently became NCAA D3. I'm a member of the Cross Country team, and we're fairly successful. We've won our conference championship for the past 3 years, and have done reasonably well at ECAC and Regionals. I don't really follow our other sports much (XC is the most successful), but I know our soccer and basketball usually do fairly well. I think tennis does okay too.

Overall, I'm giving LSC a neutral rating. There are some great things about this place, and there are some things that aren't so good, and there are some things that are absolutely god-awful. I'm ending my sophomore year here right now, and plan on staying for two more. Given the chance to make my college choice over again, I still think I would come here. The people here are, as a general rule, fucking awesome, and the program I'm in is high quality. However, I do find myself bored sometimes. You definitely have to know how to make your own fun in order to survive here. You can't depend on campus activities or the surrounding town like you can at bigger schools.
