With small class sizes, there is a wonderful opportunity for real and rich class discussion. It is a very comfortable campus, and breathtakingly beautiful. Social life for freshman might be more difficult—there are rules here (i.e. 21+ drinking) but the same rules exist everywhere. There are some things that make Salve unique and wonderful: for example, the VIA Program is an elective, selective program for whole life design. This program is centered around a philosophically based curriculum, where the students and teach work together as a team to engage with "big ideas"—everything from consumerism, sexism, racism, Nazism. There is one course called Destructive Interpretations of the Good Life where we employ Aristotelean style of dialogical learning. Overall, I love Salve. I am so glad that I chose to stuck it out. I will admit that freshman year I thought that Salve was too small, too clique-y, too snobbish. I got over that and realized that I was strong enough to avoid losing my soul to those Ugg/North Face wearing, Coach-bag toting girls… and now its all good! I have made amazing friends, learned so much about life and the world—and most importantly I learned about myself. Some of the professors here WILL change your life. Please come and check it out.
