I completed 1.5 years at Northwestern. A big part of way I transferred is that the school misrepresents themselves. What I encountered there would have been a different matter if that is what I had been expecting, but what was said and done during visits was very different from the reality of being there. I went there with the idea that the school was a semi-conservative Christian school, where there were no restrictive rules. What I got was a school where the conservative kids were blinded to the real world and only seeking future mates. The liberal kids were the ones actually runnings and they had a great deal of resentment towards the conservative kids. Chapels were generally dry and dull and when they weren't it was because they were very controversial. A student got up and gave a chapel message where he said that he didn't believe that Jesus was the only way to Heaven. Standing up and speaking to us in chapel (a forum for people to basically tell us generally accepted theological truths) was not appropriate, but instead of getting repremanded by the college authorities he was praised. If it had a been a different forum or if the school represented itself otherwise I would have been fine with him saying that. Also, the kids are by and large very snobby and you will be ignored if you don't come from the right town or aren't Dutch. |
