The linguistics program cross-lists its upper-level courses with the education department, meaning that complex theory has to be watered down to a level suitable for the average public school teacher-to-be. There was no challenge, whatsoever, involved in getting As in any of the undergraduate OR graduate courses. Grad students here, in both the linguistics and CS departments, are some of the most incapable, whining twerps I've ever dealt with. I feel like I need a tetanus shot coming out of the recreation center's locker rooms. Half the student body is comprised of commuter non-traditional students—the types of people who don't know how to use a computer. Campus events tend to be complete jokes. This is where the academic spirit goes to die. I am embarrassed to tell people I go to EMU, and am anxiously awaiting the day I can put my years here behind me. |
