I enrolled in the now and sensed re-named Community College of New Mexico and was astounded. The average student was taking remedial courses that they should have taken in h.s. and those in the 'regular/"university"' level classes weren't that much better off; the instructors often had to dumb-down the information or spoon feed it to the class. In more than one class of basic 101 level coursework the instructor would often not follow the book, and present the same material in handouts. One class I vividly recall, the instructor disregarded an excellent intro course book and presented the material using over-simplified, cartoonish [yes the pages had cartoon drawings, and the info was written at the 5th grader level]. Another "instructor' of writing insisted that the work not follow standard writing format, and use only his handed out and approved information failing anyone that didn't. These are but two of the several examples of class settings I experienced. The Administration is over bearing, dictatorial and unpleasant. What's more, this backwater training school has at all times a greater number of roaming uniformed and in-class secret private security than the several Eastern Blok and Police State countries I visited/lived in. One would think that dissent and debate is expected in a higher education setting, right? I saw a student shouted down, then escorted off the property for disagreeing with a religion instructor over something to do with a certain topic. He was later threatened with religious hate crimes lawsuits, and criminal trespass to keep him away.Stay away from this place. |
