If you are looking for a small university with a Baptist influence, protective environment, genuinely friendly students, and you are treated as an individual then keep looking at Union. Jackson as a city has everything a college student would need like a grocery store within walking distance, plenty of places to eat, and places to shop. However, there is little to do and Union in comparison to a lot of schools, does not have a lot to get involved in. The school in a blanket statement are mostly white, middle to upperclass students from Tennessee. You will meet a lot of awesome people and will make friends fast, but with the Baptist influence and their rules, these people are also close-minded and judgmental when you are different. I personally had a good experience overall at Union and would recommend it to someone who chose it for the same reason I did. If you want a spiritual based small school where your name counts and are willing to overlook the rules and sometimes unnecessary standards, then I would apply. But, if you want a diverse experience where you don't have to look to be challenged as person, then I would pass. |
