Graduated with my Associates from Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in 2004 at age 20 and got my first IT job a few months after… In 2009, I found myself age 25 and needing to complete my Bachelors degree to improve my chances at fulfilling my dream of becoming a professional pilot. (You don't need an aeronautical degree, just an accredited 4 year degree, and they actually recommend you choose a different field of study so you have a backup plan in case the unstable airline industry puts you out of the job, or the FAA takes your medical certificate away) Being a few blocks away from my job in Center City, this was the perfect location for me. The bigger schools like Drexel and Temple are nice, but Drexel is WAY overpriced and, and Temple was too much of a PITA to get to, and being that I was taking night classes, I didn't want to go to North Philly after the sun went down. I did a mix of Online and On Campus classes so far, and most of them require you to be independent and able to learn stuff on your own… This works for some, not others.. For me it worked out perfectly. I know most of the basics of the content having worked in the field for 7 years, but the Gen Ed classes of course you need to do your reading and studying to get a good grade. To me, a degree is just a piece of paper and a check box on a job application, but you need it these days to separate yourself from a pool of other applicants, and I did actually learn more than I thought I would have through the process. No point in spending a million dollars on the same content at a big name college, so this worked for me, and I came out with less Loan debt. If you are in a similar situation, give it a try. They also accepted most credits from my A.A.S. degree, and that is very important. Regional accreditation is the main thing you should look for when choosing a college and Peirce has it. Be prepared to write A LOT of papers, but I guess it makes you better at communicating. About the social setting - I wasn't here to make friends (although I have made one or 2), I was here to take care of business… So if a social setting is what you are looking for, this probably isn't it. Most people are working professionals there to better themselves and their careers as well, not a typical party and drink setting.
