I spent my first year at Saginaw Valley and transferred to Oakland last semester. I understand that because Oakland tends to be a "commuter school", it's harder to get involved and have a social life but Greek life at OU is amazing. If your planning on coming to Oakland i really stress at least considering rushing a fraternity or sorority. Being in a sorority has made all the difference for me. There are parties every weekend in the apartments across campus. There are so many welcoming and friendly people in the Greek system that i have met my best friends because of it. Academically Oakland is a tough school. But it's worth it. I feel challenged and like i am accomplishing something. And yes, i have had condescending teachers but i don't blame the school, there were the same types of teachers in Saginaw and probably at all schools. But Oakland is a beautiful campus, there are friendly people and you can get the college experience you want here if you look for it. Parking is a pain, its hard to schedule the class you need in your preferred time frame but no college is going to be perfect and Oakland has so many other things to offer. I am a commuter and i never in a million years thought i could be so happy with Oakland. |
