If you are looking for an education, this school is of the perfect size. Departments are small enough that you get to know everyone and they are trying to grow - meaning they are hoping you stay, pass everything, and succeed. Larger universities seem to have more of an "oh well" attitude if you are struggling. If you are looking to party and enjoy your first few years away from home, this is probably NOT the town for you. There is little to do and partying is almost unheard of. The engineering technology department has amazing staff, however, it is not accredited through ABET. This doesn't appear to be a big deal. As far as I can tell, an individual can still become professionally certified if they wish. Larger universities can afford ABET certification in engineering technology, but will also have less-helpful instructors and more competition. The "elite" schools and programs want to maintain that reputation (fail many students) - the smaller schools like Tarleton (and the engineering technology department in particular) want to GROW. They NEED students to pass and do well to build their reputation.Personally, I got all of the partying out of the way many years ago. Now that I have worked for many years, I appreciate the chance to go to school and Tarleton is the ideal environment to graduate and move on to real life! |
