Stony Brook is a great school with both friendly students and faculty. However, there is also a lot of information you should know before deciding to come here: 1. If you are going to live on campus, then you should definitely be aware that on the weekends it gets extremely boring. Half of the students at SBU are commuters, so on weekends and during the week, when the commuters leave there aren't too many people around. Also, they don't really have as many activities for residents as they make it seem.2. A lot of the class sizes at SBU are pretty big, some of the science classes can have as many as 600 students in a lecture. So, if you do not feel comfortable learning in a huge class, then I really don't think SBU is for you. 3. If possible, you should try to get your car on campus if you are a resident! There really isn't that much to do on campus, especially on weekends, so if you have a car on campus it would definitely be useful. A lot of times residents may feel like they are stranded on campus with nothing to do and no where to go. Although SBU does have buses to take you to the mall, having your own car would be beneficial!4. There is a lot of school spirit here, so if you do come here then make sure you have a red shirt to wear on fridays! …I think that's pretty much all the advice I can think of. Stony Brook is without a doubt an amazing school, but I will be the first to admit that it definitely isn't a school for everyone. |
