Until 2003, CHC was an all-woman's undergraduate college. I excelled while I was there. Those people who choose to be actively involved in the community tend to enjoy life at the school much more. While there may not be a ton of clubs to choose from, there are the basics, which leads to many opportunities for student leadership, and starting a club is easy if you find people who are interested. I was extremely involved in the drama club (Mask and Foil), the singing groups, and Student Government; and was also a member of the community service group and the ecology club. Many students are local, so the weekends do get quiet at times; however, I always had friends around on the weekends - in general, those students involved in campus life and committed to their studies stayed on campus most weekends. The social life may seem dull, but it's what you make of it - make good friends at the school, hang out with them, and get out of your dorm to the surrounding areas.

Academically speaking, the student's can range. I am a highly motivated, very intelligent student and I found similar students in my classes. However, I was mostly in the science and math classes. There were some "not so smart" students in my Freshman classes, but those students generally either failed/dropped out or went on to less academically challenging courses/majors. Classes are small and professors want you to succeed. If you study and apply yourself, you will learn a lot and do well. For the traditional undergraduate school, most of the professors are full time and have doctorates (at least in the computer, math, and science departments).

The biggest advantage for me at this school was in addition to learning what I needed to learn, I grew as a person, became more confident, and developed into a conscientous, responsible adult during my 4 years.

This may be seen as a negative by many: CHC is a Catholic college and is a DRY campus. Therefore, there are some rules that may seem antiquated, such as having someone of the opposite sex stay over night. In general, some people may comment that the rules are strict, and they are; however, if you played it smart, and were courteous to your RA's, other students, and security, you often aren't caught and/or fined for indiscretions.
