I was not alone, over 50% of students will transfer/dropout in the first 2 years. About 30 kids from my small freshman dorm (Dillon Hall) left after the first semester. Almost everyone hates it at Bridgewater. The food is beyond awful, there are very few healthy options, or variety of food choices at all, and everything (including off campus resturants) closes around 11 at night even on weekends. The RA's are extremely strict, which forces anyone looking for a fun time on the weekends to go to JMU. The campus empties out on weekends, everyone goes home just to escape this place. I didn't have that option unfortunately because I was an out-of-state student with no car. If you do not bring a car you will be trapped, because everything you need can only be reached by car. The professors treat students like they are public high schoolers, giving loads of busy work and checking it every class. That is not what college should be like. The school organized events are terrible and poorly attended. You have to go to mandatory "convos," which is 2-3 hours of sitting in a theater listening to some boring old guy talk, you need 7 of these every semester, and you also must do 10 hours of community service every semester. The admissions staff will tell you about the "BC Community" they're liars, no such thing exists. The majority of the school consists of poorly educated country folk who are thrilled just to be in college. I was on the football team and still was bored out of my mind, there is no way to escape the boredom of this place. The student support for athletics is terrible and gets worse as the season goes on, they are complete fair weather fans, more locals come to the games than students. I would not recommend this school to anyone who is not a white person from the deep south who enjoys doing nothing on the weekends . I struggled through one semester and transferred, and now that I'm at a real college, Bridgewater seems even worse. Please do your research better than I did, so you don't waste your fall semester freshman year like I did. If you like "colleges" that act like public high schools, go to Bridgewater. If you want a real college experience, there are plenty of similar sized colleges that offer one, just stay as far away from Bridgewater as possible. |
