I am currently a freshman and live on campus. Yes, UIC is a commuter school and a lot of people do not live here, but I have found the most amazing friends and people in the residence halls. The key to having a great time at UIC is to GET INVOLVED!!! The people who are saying that the social life sucks and do not have any friends are probably the people who are too afraid to go to clubs, meetings, etc. If you are open and friendly its really no problem! I am in greek life as well. This helps a lot with the party life and getting to know a ton of people. If you want a super social experience, rush in the fall or spring! You won't regret it.As for the campus, I think it's okay. There is a lot of concrete and our quad is just a block of cement, but when the trees and flowers are in bloom it is amazing to look up at the sears tower and see all the beautiful views. I've also noticed that a lot of people talk about how diverse it is, and YES, it is very diverse! This frightened me a bit in the beginning since I grew up in an upper-class white suburb. But I ended up loving it! It is awesome getting to know new people that I wouldn't have talked to before coming here. Overall I love it here at UIC. We may not have big football games and a sorority row like U of I and other big ten schools, but just being able to hop on the train and go anywhere in the city is amazing to me. |
