After the first month I came to the conclusion that Bridgewater College has the least diverse student body around Virginia. Coming from a prestigious boarding school, my high school years were filled interacting with international students from china, korea, kazakhstan, ukraine, etc. My high school had/has such a talented student body with those excelling in the arts as well as athletics.The move-in weekend at Bridgewater I was able to explore my dorm and saw numerous students dressing up in full cowboy outfits, boots and hats, for a night on the town I guess. I didn't mind this, until I realized 80 percent of the school owns camouflage hunting gear and of that 80 percent, all of them are from the local town of 'Bridgewater, Virginia'. The ONLY real international student I met was from Lebanon and was an extremely bright student, far exceeding a majority of Bridgewater Students. Athletics are a complete JOKE. The basketball freshman act like they're the Kobe Bryant of College. My high school produced top tier basketball players who sign with schools like Kansas and Maryland, and these high school senior players would EASILY crush Bridgewater College's senior players. They're an excuse for a team. Every team at Bridgewater is an excuse for a team. Football…don't even get me started. Long story short, they're at Bridgewater playing because they are not Division 1 quality. Enough said. The business majors are a joke. A majority of them have no idea what business even is, which would explain why 80% of my white southern country business class literally failed exam after exam after exam. This is a true fact. I saw them complain of their scores ranging from 40% to a whopping 20% during the first semester. Unlike them, I was more than prepared for business from high school. During PDP (Personal Development Program, one of the most pointless classes which is a credit that DOES NOT transfer) the professor was great at bringing up controversial subjects to debate on, such as legalization of marijuana, abortion, and religion. But the downside is that you cannot truly have a debate on these subjects when almost the entire class is extremely religious southern white people who will never even try marijuana let alone question the history of religion. I admit, I applied quickly and toured to Bridgewater and after the first visit it was a small campus and reminded me of my boarding school. I thought I would be content at this school but I was wrong. Would you like to wake up and walk to class at 7:50am only to find out the entire campus smells like COW SHIT for hours because the surroundings are all farm land?College is truly what you make it. So with that said, don't make the mistake of having to make Bridgewater your dream school when it's not. There are plenty of other colleges, just please do not go here. It's true when they said over half the freshman class transfers out as soon as they can. |
