Tri-State University is now called Trine. My undergraduate experience was good. I have received two Bachelor's degrees from Trine and truly enjoyed the experience. However, the Masters of Science in Leadership degree is HORRIBLE, and I would not advise my worst enemy to attend the program. The material presented is good, but the administration is very, very bad. Many students have dropped out at the end of the program because of the poor structure of the program. They were surprised by a capstone requirement (a.k.a. thesis) while working outside jobs and attending another course. Even after substantial investment, they could not feasibly continue. The workload was too much.

Throughout the middle of the next cohort to attend the program, it was restructured to avoid this problem. However, by this time the students were already disillusioned by the poor advising and administration. Many students stay because of the investment already made by the time this is made clear.

The individual that runs the program is also the advisor. She just is not good at what she does. Many students have approached her with very valid concerns with the program, and they are told to essentially "get over it." Because of this, many students have emotionally withdrawn from the program, as there is no recourse for problems or to be heard or validated.

One such problem is students with very low ability somehow earn high marks. It is obvious to the other students as to what is happening; Trine is giving them passing grades as to fund a struggling program. This cheapens the degree given. The degree is not achieved on intellectual merit, or even how hard one works in their studies. Students have even plagiarized and not been reprimanded.

To make matters worse, the advisor's husband is also a professor in the program. There is a blatant conflict of interest, and it blatantly shows.

So… If you are of below average intelligence or have a bad work ethic, don't mind demoralization, ridiculous "office politics" or a substandard (yet expensive) education, then Trine is the right place for you!

If you want an education worth anything, go somewhere else.
