I am not southern and just graduated from Vanderbilt. I struggled socially the first year and felt that the social scene was neither what i expected nor enjoyed. Here's the secret to all who have explained this school as "dominated by greek life" or who felt "out of place"—make.new.friends. College is a definite change, and, yes, while this school may not be for everyone, it provided me with the best four years of my life. Socially, my friends were Greeks and non-Greeks and they are the friends I will have for life. Academically, Vanderbilt is very challenging but that is to be expected. And, Nashville is the best college city, hands down. Concerts, restaurants, awesome bars, etc. make sure to get out of the "bubble" and experience the city too- it's worth it! |
