Statistical Analyzer:

Despite having the flaws of a UC (large class sizes, unhelpful professors, expensive tuition, a lot of Asians), I think UCSD is a great place to be to learn and grow as an individual. UCSD offers a lot of opportunities and people need to go out there and find these opportunities and not hope for one to go knocking at their door.

There are a lot of people complaining about this university, but honestly these reviews do not give you a good understanding of UCSD and prospective students should read them with a grain of salt. Most people, afterall, write reviews to rant and so the real people having fun and enjoying their college life aren't sitting on their computers ranting on the internet.

UCSD is a great place for academics and learning really is the first priority for many students. I don't see how this is a negative at all considering the fact that I like being surrounded with motivated and dedicated students because then they would motivate me too. Competition is not cut-throat as some people may make of it and generally, students are very nice, helpful, and down-to-earth. The people I've met give off a vibe that they're happy to be here, so I have no idea how all these people with negative reviews are coming from. It's as if we are going to two different schools.

Concerning social life, it's true that there is no school spirit because we aren't really into sports and many students do in fact go home on the weekends. But living in the dorms myself, it's sometimes just nice to be in your room and relax after a hard day with classes or just chill with a small group of friends and eat off-campus or go shopping at a nearby mall or something. If you're into parties, UCSD is probably not the place for you since it's academic-based, but there are parties out there either hosted by the school (student organizations) or student-hosted, you just have to find them and get your connctions.

Overall, UCSD is a good place to learn if you're up for the academics and want relaxed southern California atmosphere.
