Having performed well academically in high school, I wanted a school that would facilitate scholarship and academic growth. UMass Boston was not my first choice when selecting a university. I applied and was accepted into Northeastern University, Boston University, MCPHS, and Stonehill College. I had originally chosen UMass because it is in the city and offers relatively inexpensive tuition and fees. However, after being at UMB for two years I can honestly say he school has a lot more to offer than just a low price tag. The faculty as UMB is incredible. Many of my professors truly encourage their students to investigate and explore for themselves. I was invited into research labs on campus in my first year because many of the instructors want to nurture and guide your personal acquiescence of knowledge. Many of my instructors teach at Harvard, MIT, Northeastern and Tufts. Yes, there are going to be exceptions, but I challenge those naysayers to find any higher education institution without a poor quality professor. In general, I can truthfully say I?ve enjoyed all of the professors I?ve had thus far. Another factor I consider to be one of UMass Boston?s strengths are the students and opportunities on campus. I am a member of the Honors Program, which offers individualized advising and a special intensive curriculum. Along with the Honors program there are many student clubs and organizations on campus: Model United Nations, Habitat for Humanity, LGBT, Christian club and many more. All of the clubs and organizations include passionate students within a fostering environment.UMass Boston is growing rapidly. With around 16,000 students this 2012 academic year, the school is implementing its strategic plan which includes the building of a state-of-the-art science complex, new academic buildings, roadways, and dormitories. UMass Boston is an excellent school with incredible people and I hope you include it as a strong candidate in your college search/choice. |
