67.173.144.46:invalid:Content Useless, :Typical New Yorker. I'm from White Plains in Westchester county originally (attend IU now) and when people from my region open their mouths and begin to speak to anyone not from New York, WATCH OUT. I usually cringe instantaneously; it hurts my eardrums.. So judgemental of people from other walks of life, so conceited, think the world revolves around the cesspool that is NYC and its surrounding areas. This school is what you make it; you can get as good an education here as you can anywhere if you are motivated and intelligent, and plenty of people do. If you want to sit on your ass all day and party, you can certainly do that as well. From my experience the people here in Bloomington are much more more hospitable than easterners, They just get testy when you insinuate that you are better than all the dumb midwestern hillbillies in Indiana because you're from the big city and you've seen a stabbing.. Hope you have fun back in New York, good riddance, grow up.

I am a freshman this year, and it's only been a month I've been here.

Some background info: I am from Westchester, New York. Born and raised. I work in the city every summer, so I am used to a city/suburban setting. I love NY and plan to live there in my later years.

When I applied to colleges, I didn't know what I wanted. I like telecom. and wanted to go to a small artsy fartsy school on the east coast, I didn't get in. IU was on my list for some reason, and I got in, and I thought why the hell not?!

BAD CHOICE.

I feel so alone here. Here's the rundown.

DORMS: I thought I wanted to be in Northwest (party dorms) glad I didn't. The people there are drunk 24/7 and very unintelligent. If you want to be surrounded by all you best friends from carmel/whatever town from Indiana and drink all day and night, this is the place for you.

Central: where I live, is nice. The location isn't that bad, however, I'm still surrounded with some weird people. I do go out and party, so living here doesn't make it impossible, just a long walk.

Southeast: I don't know too much about this place besides this is where all the music kids are. It's pretty low key.

ACADEMICS: I feel like I am a number here. most of my professors have a thick accent and I can't understand them, and I feel like they aren't very interested in making sure you understand the content. They are there because they are getting paid and it's their job. I feel like they don't care about me.

SOCIAL LIFE: If you are a hardcore partier, please come to IU. I have never seen parties like this. too bad I am not a partier. For some reason the drink of choice is Grape Vodka, two of my least favorite things. Frat boys are greasy. It's not hard to find a party, however I've found it hard to find something to do that doesn't involve getting wasted.

PEOPLE: You will meet everybody that's ever lived in Indiana. You will meet hicks. You will meet the most unintelligent people ever. The frat boys are drunken douches with sperrys and the regular boys are just drunken douches. I have seriously never seen so many tools in my life. The sorority girls wear 10 inch heels everywhere with the shortest dresses, and take pictures of themselves taking shots. I have yet to see a community oriented fundraiser they have yet to put together. Other girls are blonde and dress like the goal is to show as mush skin possible. Where is the originality?!

In a nutshell: I'm tan and have brunette hair, by that already I feel like an outsider. I need a small school that treats me like a person and not a number. I hate to say this, but I have way more class than these people, and I simply do not feel like I fit in here. I want to be back in my city, I want to be surrounded by interesting, original, and intelligent people again. I guess I'm just an east coast girl, and always will be. Middle America is not for me.

I will most likely be transferring either in the spring, or by next year.
