I understand the one post about ?needless? stadium expansions, but let me explain what happened as I know it. I?m a sophomore whose parents are JSU graduates. They followed the discussion closely.

The stadium was in need of renovation, maybe not additional seating. Part of it was structurally unsound. They also ran out of dorm space. So an architectural firm proposed a really cost-effective way to do both- by building a dorm into one side of the stadium. This resulted in a beautiful expansion on one side (the old side still looks dilapidated). It saved several million to do both, believe it or not. It?s also an impressive structure, and the campus needed something like that to recruit students from outside the area- and it worked! Lots of kids from Atlanta and other major cities are now attending. This has raised the average GPA of the incoming classes, which increases success rates once enrolled.

If JSU wanted to compete with the ?big boys? and snag more of the best and brightest, sorry, but this is one way to do it and get your new dorm and stadium repairs for a lot less than any other way. So if you look beneath the surface, it really wasn?t needless at all. It?s increased athletic attendance and brought in other revenue from alumni.

Point about the campus police is true. JSU cops are AWFUL. Like many campus cops, overly jealous and notorious for being ruse. Unfortunately, with 2 older siblings at other schools, this is quite common. But for a school known as the ?Friendliest Campus in the South?, it?s pretty hypocritical. The school President is a great guy- he needs to put a stop to the jerk-off mentality of the UPD there.

Other than that, I can tell you that my 2 and a half years there have been incredible. People really are nice here, including the faculty. I?m in Communications and love it. We are like a family. Greeks are overall pretty cool here, not as bad as bigger schools. There are some drunks & sororitutes here, but not many. I?m getting a great education at a reasonable price. With a brother at U of Ga and sister at Auburn, I?m at the best place in the family. And the band is incredible! Football team needs to improve- other sports are pretty good. And the camps food is awesome!
