I knew coming to college in a different state was going to be a change but i did not expect this- everyone that i have met or come in contact with is from rhode island. Not only that, but they all went to the same highschool or are from neighboring towns and know each other. uri is just an extension of high school for them and since they loved high school, they love uri. Well, I hated high school and I was excited to come to college and meet people who all wanted the same thing- to make new friends, have a good time, and still make academics a priority. Well, in my second year hear I have made zero friends and do nothing on the weekends if i stay here. Someone said join a club, so i did…the people are rude and unwelcoming. Someone said everything happens off campus, so i move off campus…i sit in my bedroom every night while my roommate (who are both from rhode island and live 5 min away) go out with their friends from high school with no invitation to me. And these are the people that i am supposed to be friends with? I feel like i'm wasting my time and my money because this whole "college experience" is terrible here. I could sell my life away to a sorority, but then again i do feel like graduating with some of my dignity. I have literally exhausted all options of trying to find a place where i belong at this university and i am tired of blaming myself for this isolation. Leave this university to the stuck up people who make up the majority of this campus; the rhode islanders. |
