I am from Massachusetts, so all my life, people have told me to go to Boston for college. Because of the opportunities I would get at Northeastern, I chose to come here. Everyone comes here for the co-op; if they say anything else they are lying. For my major (Speech-Language Pathology), we are only allowed to have one co-op, it has little to do with our major unless you're one of the two people doing Audiology, and some are not even paid. My major feels completely neglected at this school, especially since we have basically no study abroad opportunities and thats another huge draw for people to Northeastern. As for the students, I was shocked at what I found. Most everyone is extremely liberal, so if you are even slightly conservative I really think you should be hesitant about coming here. People are ignorant and all went to expensive private high schools. Most people come from wealth here and are pretty spoiled. Most people here are hipster and bizarre, so being average is pretty abnormal. The rest of the people are international and are either rude or don't speak english. The smoking issue on campus is disgusting; for someone who is fairly conscious about their health, I feel like I am slowly dying here because of the abundant cigarette smoke. Also, everyone smokes weed here. I can never sleep because people party outside my dorm window until the early morning every single night, and my RA is on co-op and is never here so my hallway is insanity. For the amount of debt I am already in and the amount of money I am paying to be here, I am really regretting my decision. I wish I expanded my horizons more when looking for colleges. I am looking to transfer for my sophomore year because I can't afford to be miserable here for the next four years. |
