When I first visited TCU, I was amazed by the beautiful campus, attractive girls, and amazingly friendly and helpful staff. However after enrolling and becoming a student, I saw a different side of the school. Don't get me wrong, the classes are small and the teachers are great. All of my professors are very friendly and willing to work with me through any problems i might have in the class. However if you aren't in a fraternity, then don't expect to have much of a social life. The campus is ruled by greek life, and the parties are as well. Within the first few weeks of the semester I pledged a fraternity, only to drop out a few days later. All fraternity members are the same. They care about their appearance more than anything (wearing expensive clothing including sperry's, khaki's, and polo shirts at all times), speak lowly of women, insist on drinking any chance they can, and are completely xenophobic. After dropping the fraternity, I quickly realized that i don't fit in here. I have joined several clubs and I am involved with extra curricular activities, but my life on the weekends are dormant. If your not in a fraternity/sorority, chances are you won't get into any parties. And if you want to go to the dirty local bars instead, well, you'll find the same frat stars there as well. My whole life I have always been a happy, cheerful, and outgoing person and Ive always loved meeting new people. After going here, I have been described as a quiet person for the first time in my life. I find it extremely hard to be individualistic here, as greek life sets the standard for the social norm. overall, I would say that the academics here are great, but unless you are involved in greek life, do not count on attending many parties or social events.
