I'm an Honors Audio Engineering Major (BS) freshman finishing my first semester.

I'll be honest, I haven't experienced the college much yet, but here's what's struck me:

Positives:

  • My particular program is top notch
  • Honors let me get some great classes
  • Nashville is cool
  • Met some great people, especially through Greek Life

    • Negatives:

  • FALL FOLLIES: everybody loves these satirical plays about the school. I can take a satire play and cynical jokes, but they hit hard when poking fun at a program I'm paying an arm and leg to be in.
  • I've talked to several professionals I know or have met, and the general consensus is that you DO NOT need a degree in music/music business/AET to do well. What you do seem to need is talent, personal skills, money to fund your goals, drive, and an image (sadly). One added that he got a non music degree in counseling (his other passion) so he'd have a fall back once he retires from music. After hearing these comments from numerous professionals, I started to question my time here.

    • Bottom line, I'm considering transferring to an in state school back home and getting a traditional economics/business degree before I start missing my savings or home state too much. I can definitely see myself living in Nashville, but going to Belmont for 4 years? Not too sure how I feel about it.
