Surrounding area sucks, especially if you don't have car. It's south central. Crimes galor, food not that great, ugly all around. Film school students are really cliquey but definitely passionate. Personally, I've found it difficult to make lasting relationships with many people. It takes a very assertive person to make friends since the suites are extremely isolating and anti-social, you'll likely not have most classes with people you knowClasses are uninspiring. I'm a sophomore and 90% of my classes have consisted of professors at front lecturing 100+ students for 2 hours. Then midterm, final, and a few papers. All interaction done through TAs since they're the ones grading everything so forget about personal education. Honestly, I would've transferred yesterday if the weather wasn't so nice and the film school didn't have the reputation as being one of the best in the country. I keep trying to tell myself that reputation isn't everything, but in reality I've met a lot of people who are impressed by the USC name, even though the education quality sucks. |
