Graduating in the near by high school here in Portsmouth, I was already aware of Shawnee as a university with potential for itself and it's students. College is what you make it here, students that are antisocial will hate the friendliness this campus offers. This college is underrated, and the developments in the video-game field is impressive for such a tiny area, and I've heard wonderful things about our health-care degrees. Social life is contained almost exclusively on campus because Portsmouth isn't at a college friendly level yet, but that is slowly coming about with a hooka bar being opened just recently and the super strict laws on narcotics passed in the city about a year ago. Negative reviews will fail to point that out, but with any town there will be vices lingering around. This school is also honest about this position and coming transitions. I've never seen any pretension in staff and they only seek to help a student's success, that is from my experience in my freshmen and sophomore classes. The cafeteria is bland however, but they will feed you, but there is an awesome mexican restaurant near by Toro Loco that acts as a wonderful alternative, and other such commercial restaurants and a movie theater near by. To find great fun, befriend an in-town student for the music underground scene in Portsmouth, especially if you enjoy punk/metal. My major English of looks promising, but so far I've made greater advances in my two minors of Spanish and Music that has extremely friendly staff and will always be able to give you individual attention, especially as you advance in these fields. Unfortunately, neither of these come in a major. Shawnee still offers plenty of bachelors degrees with great educational quality. |
