If you are any type of science major then this school is worthless, seriously one of the worst. You might as well risk your safety and go to the University of Maryland. If you are a business, humanities, pre law or some sort of liberal arts major, then this is the perfect school for you. Unless you want to experience the college life everyone talks about.

Here are some reasons why I can't stand this school:

Science department is full of a bunch of amateurs compared to other schools. GMU tries to take the science department seriously but GMU doesn't care and doesn't give money to the department so the people that are in the department have to make do with what they have. The labs are made for students who practiced science in 1980. The labs are very out of date and with how technology and the science industry is booming, this school will not benefit you. Also for some reason the department tries to take themselves seriously by grading and making their classes ridiculously and unrealistically hard because they think thats what other prestigious science schools do. ( EX: grading you on sentence structure and not the correct data and analysis of your report) NO that's not the case, I came from a prestigious school but I only transferred out here because of some personal family issues. Compared to what I had at my old school, the science program here is a joke. It's so bad that I get angry thinking about how worthless my degree will be when I graduate. I would have been better off risking my safety and going to university of maryland, at this point I wouldn't mind the 1 1/2 hour commute and out of state tuition fees but I'm only one semester away so I am going to have to suffer.

For students who want to experience the college life, do not even think about this school, it's probably one of the most boring college campuses you can step foot on. Sororities and fraternities don't even have their own houses and they have to be off campus… WTF? made my laugh out loud when I heard that. I mean seriously, no frat row? sorority row? EXCUSE ME? The student body tries to do "fun" things like movie night, "carnival games" but SERIOUSLY, who goes to college to experience movie night? Like I said, joke. The campus is dead on the weekend, maybe you will see another student walking around the johnson center or so but they are probably some zombie walker looking for food since most of the restaurants on campus are closed on weekends (seriously?). For a school who prides themselves in students who live on campus, they do not care about you! It seems like this school cares more about their employees and catering to their 9-5 job rather than the student who works and goes to school at the same time. Even the professors office hours are between 9-4PM. For example, has anyone noticed how many night classes GMU offers? lol the community college down the street offers more night classes then GMU and thats pretty sad considering this school is a "University." I mean even online classes are very scarce.

In conclusion:

  • If you want to experience the "College life" don't come here, JUST DON'T…
  • If you want to be any sort of science major, good luck with learning something from this millennium
  • If you want to live on campus, good luck with not being bored to death.
  • Want to have a night-class? go to the community college down the street because GMU will most likely not have it.
  • Online classes? NOPE…
  • Want to work with cool technology and up to date lab experiments… HAHA, as long as you are not a chemistry major… Maybe if you wait another 20 years?
  • Want to be in a sorority or fraternity, expect to live off campus… And it won't be like what everyone talks about…
  • If you want a job after you graduate, you better be prepared to work HARD to look for a job. If you look up the statistics of GMU students being offered jobs out in the career field, the statistics are pretty low.
  • The only good thing I can think of is parking is not that bad, people who complain about parking are a bunch of lazy students who MIND losing a couple of calories and want a parking spot in front of the school… Sorry GMU can't cater to your every need, get with the program dude! DUH…
