I transferred to LVC after my freshman year (spent at East Stroudsburg University). Best decision I ever made. Most of the faculty are friendly and inviting, except for a few sticklers (but you'll have that anywhere). I majored in Biology, and I was very surprised how challenged I was. I knew it would be difficult, but I really had to work hard for my grades, in a good way. I never felt like I had a lot of "busy work," and time spent during lab hours was well utilized. Faculty are very knowledgeable, and a great source of information. They were always available for after-hours help, and actually want you to do well. I also minored in Religion, and probably would have double majored if I had picked it up earlier. The philosophy and religion department is incredible (by the way, I'm an atheist, but really got a lot out of my minor - it's an easy way to broaden your education). Faculty in general are very willing to provide after class help. I had a religion professor who would come to campus the night before exams just to host a review session. My physics professor ran daily "homework help" sessions for those who struggled with the problems.

By the way: I recently graduated from a state university (will remain nameless but it's in Erie County) with a second bachelor's degree. Having spent my freshman year at a state college, and now having earned my BSN from another state college, I can say with absolute confidence that there is a HUGE difference between state and private institutions. You will NOT get the quality of education found at private colleges (LVC) in any state university. Don't waste your time and money at a state college. Even on the administrative level, there is no comparison. Private institutions have their act together - state colleges do not. Period. Spend some more money and get a better education - my advice having gradated from both. This is not an elitist opinion; I do not come from money, and I work for what I have.

Moral of the story: LVC offers you a very strong educational platform, and you'll get it at a competitive tuition. Don't waste your efforts at a state college.
