i remember looking at the brochure and daydreaming years ago when thinking of where to pursue my education… i had fun with the dynamic students at SAE. that being said, i have a hard time believing their claim of 70% or so job placement rate. the teachers are mediocre save for a couple of really good and experienced ones with impressive resumes. they let you sink or swim. some teachers are so lazy they forget things, one teacher was very unprofessional and ended the class early multiple times with bad excuses. they made mistakes with the very important studio time sheets (of which hours are needed to graduate 900) long story short, the teachers and supervisors mostly come off as pot head hipsters. you dont get nearly as much time with the big boards (NEVE, SSL) as you need. you get pretty much NO REAL MASTERING CLASS. they change things about the curriculum from year to year but they are just fancy on the surface. they need to give students more time with the big boards, a better (legitimate) mastering class, and some tutoring. they will pass you if you are falling behind as long as you meet very MINIMUM requirements to pass. they want your money$$$$$$$$$$. i did learn how to use recording software well, which i now update myself on using the internet which anyone with passion can get alot out of. this is an honest account from someone that worked hard over there. if ur a rich kid with a large trust fund you might wanna go get those credentials and studio time and get to know that equipment but if you work, have kids, a life, a boyfriend, anything… its very hard. you have to be 18 and ready to become an engineer at something and you cannot be taking ANY OTHER classes anywhere else. they have full and part time. its optimal to go full time and soak it in… think boot camp mentality if you do this and want to get something out of it. they need to open up the semester/schedule so people have time to process this very technical info. i think they wanna turn over to the new class and get that new money. when you graduate you can sign up for emails regarding possible jobs. that part is the best, too bad i'm not qualified and properly prepared for most of those jobs. im still looking and its been a couple of years working odd jobs. ive done one sound job getting cash at the minimum wage level at a studio. the skills i did pick up made it easy for me to learn pretty quickly how to get taught at work ,lawl, and get paid nothing with no upward mobility. im totally outmatched when applying for sound jobs. enjoy! if i could go back in time i'd go straight to 4 year college. too late. now i have to start all over again, in debt.
