The social life is horrible, general faculty don't care about students, and provide far not enough resources to use. Cafeterias have almost exclusively fat and unhealthy fast-food, and if you want to cook yourself, kitchens in dorms have only basic equipment. Besides, you are forced to pay 2k for food, if you plan living on-campus. Half of the winter heaters in dorms are broken and you sit in your room freezing. If you leave a work order at the beginning of semester, prepare to wait till it's end before it will be fixed. Sport complex favor only basketball players and nicely tell all other sports players to turn over because of not enough space. Swimming pool is open an hour per day at best. The whole University is located in the middle of nowhere, so you won't find any interesting things to do around either. Overall, I would advise to apply to this University only if you're not planning to stay on-campus. If you do, however, consider studying abroad for at least a semester to spend some time away from Stony Brook. Their office is quite nice, and you have a big choice of countries. |
