YOUR MAJOR MATTERS:

If you are just researching schools, keep in mind what you want your major to be. Only a FEW majors are suited to be here: Nursing, business, and pre-health.

I can't speak for the other degrees like English, philosophy, language etc but a rule of thumb everyone would agree with is this: USF is NOT worth going into debt for (with the exception of MAYBE business or nursing).

An aside on the sciences: Good for basic sciences and people who don't really want to get a PhD, like pre-health kids. Bad for those who want more because we are very limited on degree specialization and exposure.

Degrees that you should NOT go here for: anything art, film, or media related. Go to Academy of Art, you learn so much more there, and that's where all the employers go to look for qualified students.

YOUR DEMOGRAPHIC:

If you are Asian or Asian-american you will likely fit right in, Filipinos here are very social with each other and it is basically one big family. Also sports people (like at every university) are all friends. If you smoke, or are a druggie, you will also find your click easily. Females, if your are one of those rich

I wanna be a grungy, explore my sexuality, hippy
you will feel right at home. Also if you are rich and snobby you will have a blast. Start shopping for your party dresses and LV purses now- but keep in mind after freshman year no one wears them.

Males, good luck making random friends in other classes especially when almost everyone is female, and 15-20% of guys you meet will be hitting on you because you might be gay.

Bottom line, You form your group of friends the first year and it is VERY difficult to make any friends after that (until about senior year when you know the people in your classes), the students just aren't welcoming of others, and don't go out of their way to get more friends. Perhaps it is due to crowded city life: you can't roll with more than 5-10 people due to physical space limitations in the small ass housing.

The "Liberal" curriculum: Almost all of your core classes are a complete waste of time and many are taught by terrible professors. Literature, "social diversity", philosophy? Waste of time.

Biggest pain in the ass: language requirement of 2-3 semesters. And the fact that business majors don't have to take a language at all, how this is possible I have no idea.

Last note:

Don't buy the whole diversity this school is trying to sell. Sure we have hundreds of students straight from Asia but odds are you will NEVER meet them, socialize with them, or have anything to do with them. It just doesn't happen, sorry. The only time you will see them is when they are driving their Aston Martins, Lambo's, Maserati, or other >$100,000 car. That is definitely not my idea of a good-diverse school.
