Okay, first of all, Millersville University, as a whole is one of the most incompetent universities I've ever been to. I knew that after the first week I was here. The busing system that takes you around campus and to different parts of Lancaster is always either 5-10 min. early or 5 min. late. Most of the bus drivers are crabby old men too who yell at you if you're late and take smoke breaks at the most inconvenient times. The registar office is the absolute WORST. They will put you on hold for 15 min. and constantly transfer you to other people who do not help you/answer your questions. They also never update the transfer equivalency page on their website, so don't even THINK about taking a class at a community college over the summer and transfer it over, bc it will more than likely either: A) not transfer over, or B) transfer, but not for the reason you need it to (like for a Writing or a Perspectives requirement). I took a class through HACC over the summer and it transferred over but not as a Writing requirement. I found out that MU had changed that class to not count as a Writing back in the Winter of 2010 but they NEVER BOTHERED TO UPDATE IT on the transfer equivalency on the MU website. I had to fight with the Registar's office and go all the way up to the Dean of Education in order to get it to count, and that took me the entire Fall semester and countless phone calls to the Registar's office. They once had me on hold for nearly 20 min. and I was on my lunch break at work, which was only 30 min. long! As for professors and classes, most are okay. Some of the profs I've had are really knowledgeable and really know their stuff, but others just don't care or have us do really meaningless projects or busy work. My adviser is awful. She tried to get me to change my major (for the 2nd time) when I first met with her bc I didn't have that many Education classes to my name yet. Obviously I don't bc I JUST GOT INTO THE EDUCATION DEPT. THAT SEMESTER! She also didn't help me at all when I was trying to resolve my issue with my summer class, even though SHE was the one who suggested I take one in the first place! That's $500 I spent on a class that MU wasn't going to accept as a Writing, even though THEY were the ones who neglected to update the website! The food is terrible and will give you the runs, no joke. Also, the dining halls operate at terrible times. Say you have an 8 AM class that goes until 9:15 and it's on the other side of campus. Well, they only serve breakfast in the dining halls ON THE OTHER SIDE OF CAMPUS. And, they only serve it from 7-9:30 AM. That means you have to practically sprint from your class all the way to the other side of campus if you want to eat a descent meal that day and not just a stupid bagel and gritty-tasting coffee. Oh, and some of the depts. at MU are so snotty and stuck-up that you literally feel like you're back in high school. So many of the students are so cliquey and thrive on brown-nosing and kissing up to the profs. You wonder how some of the students and faculty sleep at night. Oh, and we don't have a library, so there's pretty much no quiet places to study at. And parking is an absolute nightmare, so don't plan on coming here if you're a commuter. Scheduling and registering for classes is a joke. This university pretty much thrives on keeping their students here longer than they need to be so they can suck them dry of every last red cent. Unless you don't mind dealing with snotty peers/faculty, incompetent and practically useless administration, terrible parking and even worse food, then come to MU. If you have any sense and value your education (and sanity), then go somewhere else. This is the WORST PA state school I have ever been to. I wish I could transfer out, but I only have one more year until I'm done so there'd be no point. DO NOT GO HERE!!! |
