Overall, I really like West Chester. I'll be a sophomore next year, and I'd say my first year was definitely a success. The majority of my professors have been helpful and accessible, and if you want good grades, you can get them—but that means studying hard. Not many professors are going to hand you an A on a silver platter (although, I did have one professor like that). Campus is beautiful in the fall and spring, but it does rain a lot, so it can be a little too grey here sometimes—bring an umbrella and rain boots! WCU is less than 20 minutes away from King of Prussia Mall, and about 45 minutes away from Philadelphia (which is easily accessible through SEPTA). I am a frequent rider of SEPTA, and it is so convenient since there is a stop right on campus. As far as food goes…let's just say this school is lucky if it gets a passing grade. The Lawrence Center (main cafeteria)didn't even pass FDA inspection, and it was discovered that there were mice breeding in the building. Several times, I've picked up a bowl or a spoon that was supposed to be clean and noticed crap on it. Sykes is another option for dining, but you can't get homestyle cooking there (although there is a salad bar, but the service there is absolutely horrible—they move so slowly and don't take their work seriously—I've thought about complaining several times). Ultimately, if you opt for burgers and fries every day, you're going to put on the freshman 15. I've LOST 20 lbs. here, thanks to our state-of-the-art rec center and eating salads/fruits every day, so eating healthy is still possible. Town is cute and quaint, but completely boring if you're under 21. There are a bunch of nice restaurants, a small hotel, a hookah bar, general bars, and a few bookstores/beauty salons/etc. Nothing like Philly though. If you're looking for EXCITING nightlife, go to a school in Philly. Parties can be found here, but one time when I went out with my friends we walked around for an hour and couldn't find one thing. You either have to know people to get in or pay, which is annoying. Greek life does have a small presence here—I rushed in the fall, but wasn't happy with my final bid, so I dropped out of recruitment. I plan on rushing again next fall. As a freshman, I am the treasurer of a club and president/editor-in-chief of our campus research journal. This means added stress to an already busy schedule, but if you want to get involved, you definitely can!
