Great school. The most bizarre thing about reviews are the number of people that complain about the rules. This is a non-denominational religious school, and that is quite clear upon applying. There are rules, in the handbook that every student has to sign off on, so welcome to the world…if you don't like the rules, that is what happens when you do not read the fine print. Just wait until you start working somewhere for a career, you don't even know what complaining is yet. Yes, the school is strict. Yes, they have rules for freshman that do not seem fair. But freshman are brand new to college, and the school wants them to focus on their studies and surrounding areas, vs bringing girls up to their dorms. The rules get more lenient as time goes on, and you can also choose to live off campus, with no rules. The complaints about the rules show an underlying theme - too many people who want to have fun vs learning, while at school. Big mistake. Make sure you know what you want to do with your life and major, and focus on those. Otherwise, you will submit yourself after to college to "just getting a job", and you will likely be miserable, or at best just bored. This is the rest of your life. The friends and fun happen naturally even when you study your a$$ off all the time trying to get what you want out of the education. If you are concerned about the education you will be receiving isntead of how much you can get away with, you will appreciate the school, as most teachers will go out of their way to help you succeed. There is no shortage of study groups, the professors have an open door policy that I've always found to be as-promised, and the religious/ethical core that they teach will serve you well after school. Imagine that, employers like honest, well-behaved people in their company…whoduhthunk it?? So if you want no rules, go to FAU. You won't have to take part in prayers before a class, you won't be required to lend a helping hand in your community, and you won't be forced to sit in chapel ceremonies once a week, where random speakers offer up insights on what it really takes to be a contributing member of society. But if you want a Christian university, that is not as strict as say, Clearwater Christian or Pensacola Christian, you've found the right place. There is a great balance here of both secular and religious ideas. Bonus - meet a local hiring alumni, and you are pretty much a shoe-in at landing a decent job. PBA alumni know the school produces quality students/worker bees. Ha! |
