Hey everyone.

I'm a second semester student, 22 years old (I'm one of many who are taking time to work before jumping into school and debt). I'm also a single parent, and work full time. I'll sum up, as fairly as possible, the utility of attending MCC as opposed to other schools.

MCC is as friendly as the adult world (aka the real world) gets. I don't see anything particularly negative or positive in this regard; however it should be noted, as a Community College, MCC admits many students who are of lower qualification than you would find at private Universities. Many are casual/heavy drug users, and I know the dorms (while I have/will not live(d) there!) are pretty crammed full of potheads and it's said there are so many students who use pot in the campus housing that it's impossible to meaningfully enforce the rules without having MCC's bottom line impacted significantly. On the other side of the coin, you have tons of serious students who have a vision and goal for themselves in the future - as it is other places, it's all about who you hang around.

As for teachers and faculty, I highly recommend you check RateMyProfessor.com and carefully review/consider each class you're taking. There are some very good educators employed there, and there are tons MORE average and low quality staff members as well (if we're being plain, here). You are the one choosing who your teachers are, and if you use due diligence you'll find you have a majority of outstanding teachers and a small minority (1 or 2) teachers you just don't mesh well with for whatever reason. So again, take responsibility for your education! Your quality of your curriculum will also largely dependent on the teacher's you chose.

On to the Scholastic Success category - in my opinion, if you have common sense and are motivated and KNOW WHY YOURE at MCC… you can't fail. It's so hard to fail most classes. Seriously. Do your HW, study, and—seek help—if you need it. It's there and available!

Quality of program? Once again.. it's what you make of it. If you think MCC or any other college will force you to be a happy, productive, and employable adult YOU are WRONG! That is on your shoulders, and I believe MCC does a great job of giving you the resources (quality programs) you need to make your way to graduation or another University. To be fair, MCC has been called aptly "the 13th grade". My opinion is that it's a matter of perspective; if you are a 13th grader, the world will look as such… if you are a college student… Look, bottom line is MCC has the programs, the ability to transfer most if not all credits (YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT HAPPENING) and have you on your way to escaping poverty with a Bachelor's Degree.

Campus safety is good - there are the shitbags, but if you stay clear of bad circles of people you most likely won't see a fight then entire year. The dorms I'm sure are different.. Maintenance is solid, no complaints there. Clean school. Also there's a Subway and some caf?s in the food court area; expensive but good stuff. Definite plus!

I won't comment on Social Life - honestly that's dependent on the individual and it is what you're capable of making it in the end. But plenty of opportunities to meet new people. For the guys, yes there are girls - TONS, but there are also TONS of guys competing with you and it's not like they're high quality. I don't suggest hunting for dates at MCC but some of us need to learn these lessons lolololol

That's all I got for ya

Like I said, if you want something out of it, go there and get it - don't let people's shit and impoverished attitudes screw your progress. In the end it's in your control to carve out your future, and MCC is a very good channel to do that through.

Cya!
